I have just written the 10th CBSE Board Examination 2010. In 11th Standard there is an option for Biology and Computer Science. As per today's trend, which of the two should I opt for? I want to pursue a career in Space Research. I am stepping into I PUC and intend to select PCME. Is there any better combination to look forward to?
Gowri Priya
Considering that you want to opt for a career in Space Research, the combinations of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Electronics or Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Computer Science would be ideal as you need to pursue B.E. or B.Tech. These provide a foundation for you to face the rigours of academics at the graduation level and further. Stick to your choice and the programme that you have in your mind. This will keep you in good stead. Following PUC, you should focus on Electronics, Electrical, Information Technology and similar fields.
I am a computer engineer working in the private sector and I am involved in projects in the aerospace segment. I have about four years of experience in aviation/aerospace. Is it feasible for me to pursue MBA in Aviation Management in RMIT, Australia? Please spell out the career opportunities on completion of the 18-month programme. I want to pursue this programme as one of my customers to whom we provide IT services was making a mention of it.
Pawan
The MBA (Aviation Management) of RMIT University (www.rmit.edu.au) aims to integrate the skills required to analyse and implement creative solutions, enhance leadership, communication and interpersonal skills, and to develop managers able to achieve results in an industry characterised by global competition, and driven by rapidly changing market forces. It is divided into three stages, each of one semester duration (campus study mode).
Stage One (Graduate Certificate) consists of courses which give an overview of the aviation industry.
Stage Two (Graduate Diploma) offers the opportunity to develop business and management skills. It also emphasises the personal development of the candidates on the premise that by understanding their own development process, they are better able to facilitate the development of individuals who work for and with them.
Stage Three (Master's) further develops the theme of air transport industry specialisation, while still including the development of personal competencies. Candidates undertake an aviation research project which is jointly supervised by an RMIT staff member and where possible an industry supervisor, to provide the participant with guidance that will incorporate real work perspective.
The opportunities in the field of Aviation Management are plenty and you can work in either government or private sector.
My daughter has written the 10th CBSE examination. She is confused about choosing the right stream and would prefer to study in a school/college where there is 11th and 12th. She wants to pursue Journalism. As parents, we feel that she is too young to choose and we have suggested her to take up Science for 11th and 12th. We need your advice.
Krishnamurthy Srinivasan
This is the parental dilemma in today's world. Children make decisions based on peer group understanding/discussion/influence. As parents and elders, we should be empathetic to the thought process of the children and guide them appropriately with reasoning. The children of today are exposed to many facets of life and hence take decisions and plan for the future in their own style; however, guidance from parents and teachers would help them in taking qualitative decisions.
Journalism is a multi-faceted field. Besides writing, there are technical fields that are today very important in the print and electronic media. The children should be provided an understanding that with plentiful choices within the print and electronic media, the options increase. Pursuing the Arts or Commerce stream will surely help shape a career in Journalism. With a Science background, there are options for dabbling in technology in Journalism. Giving options and opportunities will help the children grow and take a good decision.
