B-school aspirants had a free-flowing question and answer session with the experts at the counselling session, Manage - 2010, organised for the MBA hopefuls by The Hindu Education Plus in association with Hyderabad-based Sujana School of Business here on Saturday. Undergoing a MBA programme in India or US, which is better?

An MBA programme from a reputed college or university in the US always stands out, as the brand value is global. An MBA or PGDBM or PGPM programme in India is good, if it is from a reputed college.

Is it good to go for an MS degree in the US or M.Tech programme over MBA?

People who intend to take up a job after B.Tech can go for a MBA degree as it would add value to the technical degree. Students who do not intend to go for a job should try to get enrolled in MS or M.Tech programmes. Technical students should always try to enhance their core subject knowledge through higher studies.

For B.Com students is finance elective good?

Finance and accounting are related subjects. The finance elective is the right choice for B.Com students. They can even try the dual specialisation of marketing and finance.

Which elective is good for B.Tech civil engineering?

Students from core specialisations like civil, mechanical, electrical and chemical can always opt for electives like infrastructure management and project management in their management studies. Students from ECE can go for telecom management which is a new emerging area.

Is work experience useful in management study?

Work experience is certainly preferred by top management schools in India and abroad. The teaching methodology in most of the top B-schools goes down well with students who have at least two years of work experience.

Is MBA suitable for students from biology background?

MBA programme is suitable for students from any background. Hard work and attitude is the key for success in MBA programme.

MBA- Finance in comparison with CA, ICWAI and ACS?

MBA-Finance is no match for CA, ICWAI or ACS. They are specialised finance courses.

The difference between IIMs and other top institutes compared with other institutes?

The input or student quality in the IIMs and other top institutes is much higher when compared to the rest and the teaching methodology is also different. Most of the top institutes follow the case study method.

Scope for distant MBA education?

The distant mode is suitable for working professionals who intend to add an additional degree to their experience. It is not very suitable for the freshers.
