I am interested in pursuing an IATA course. I am looking for well-recognised centres in Bangalore or Chennai. I have also heard of vocational courses authorised by the City and Guilds. What are my options?

Suresh Varma

The IATA (International Air Travel Association)-UFTAA (Universal Federation of Travel Agents Association) (www.iata.org) programme is offered worldwide through authorised training centres. On completion of the examination, the certification is provided under the seal and signature of IATA-UFTAA. The training centres offer Foundation Level 1 and Consultant Level 2 programmes, to mention a few. The centres train students to face the examination that is held worldwide. The following are some of the centres you can approach:

Bangalore: Kuoni Academy (www.kuoniacademy.co.in), 9 and 10, Ground Floor, Queens Road, Bangalore; Department of Tourism Studies, Christ University (www.christuniversity.in), Block II, 3rd Floor, Hosur Road.

Chennai: Trade Wings Institute (www.tradewinginstitute.com), 752, Anna Salai, behind Bank of America, Chennai; Kuoni Academy (www.kuoniacademy.co.in), Fagun Mansion, Ground Floor, 26, Ethiraj Salai, Chennai.

If you browse www.iata.org/training you will get more information about the other programmes that you can pursue under the umbrella of IATA-UFTAA.

I am pursuing the LL.B. Honors (B.A.-LL.B.) five-year course from Bangalore University. I shall be graduating in 2011. I am interested in pursuing LL.M. I have gathered information regarding eligibility and the CLAT score. What are the other parameters that are looked into for granting admission to the programme? Does it require work experience such as legal internships, moot court competitions, legal research and writing? Let me know the scope of LL.M. and job avenues which open later. I am also interested in academia. Should I consider working for a law firm after LL.B. and then consider LL.M.?

Tara Gopinath

A majority of those who complete LL.B. practise in courts or a legal firm. A few pursue LL.M., wherein they specialise in various aspects. LL.M. and a Ph.D. are required to become a faculty member and a researcher. On completion of LL.M., one can take up specialised practice with a law firm and ensure success.

The five-year law programme has brought about a sea change in legal studies; moot court, internship, legal writing, drafting and conveyancing have ensured that students get to understand the nuances in a much better manner. Some universities and institutes even have speed reading programmes, which will help in one's career. Practice in the courts or a firm will help one be a better teacher as one gets to the issues of law in a dynamic manner.

I am in PUC. I want to become a Nanotechnologist. I would like to go through the engineering curriculum. Please suggest a programme.

Akhil Prabhu

The Amity Institute of Nanotechnology has earned a good reputation. You should connect to the admission officer at the Amity Institute of Nanotechnology, Amity Campus, Sector 125, Noida-201303. Ph: 0120-2432780. E-mail: admissions@amity.edu

Please provide the address of Indian Statistical Institute in New Delhi. I plan to study there.

Rajshekar K.

The address: Indian Statistical Institute (www.isid.ac.in), Delhi Centre, 7, SJS Sansanwal Marg, New Delhi-110016. Ph: 011-41493987.

I am interested in pursuing specialised courses in Organisational Development (OD), an integral part of HR. Are there any good institutes which offer the programme? I have making efforts to move to other companies as a practitioner of HR but the consultants have been asking for certifications in HR. I finished my MBA in HR in 2001. The consultants want the certifications to be of recent origin. I have about three years of HR experience.

Mahesh Kumar

The Indian Institute of Organisational Development (IIOD) (www.iiod.in), in collaboration with the Institute of Organisational Development, U.S., offers the Organisational Development Certificate Programme online and classroom programmes. They focus on OD, Change Management, Organisation Effectiveness and Facilitation.

The learner is provided a good opportunity to understand the nuances of OD and its implementation from a practical perspective.

The Certificate Programme consists of eight foundational courses:

1. Introduction to Organisational Development – Theory and Practice. 2. Organisational Development Consulting - Core Competencies, Ethics and Values, and Process Skills. 3. Organisation Systems and Dynamics. 4. Organisational Analysis and Design - Diagnostics and Assessments and Interventions. 5. Group Development and Processes. 6. OD Facilitation Skills. 7. Organisational Behaviour and Change. 8. Change Management: Planning and Implementation.

For more details, you should contact IIOD, Citi Centre, Level 6, No. 10/11, Dr. Radhakrishnan Salai, Mylapore, Chennai-600 004. E-mail: rachel@iiod.in

I completed B.Sc. 14 years ago. Is it feasible to take up further studies in any area? I want to qualify for a postgraduate degree.

Ravindranath

Education has no boundaries. You should contact the university of your choice and seek admission. Find out if it imposes age restrictions.

In the Distance Learning field, there is no age restriction. You can pursue a course of your choice through the many universities that are offering innovative programmes along with counselling classes, wherein counsellors/teachers will help the students to understand the pertinent aspects provided in the Self- Instructional Material (SIM).

You should select a course of choice that will help you to pursue your career.
