Students from different educational institutions recently attended a workshop in Ssrinagar organised by software companies.

It had presentations by experts and focused on practical learning by simulating real work environments.

It aimed to help Information Technology (IT) students bridge the gap between what the universities and colleges teach them and the skills that are needed by the industry.

“The purpose of the workshop was to bridge the gap between the skills which our students are trained for in different colleges, universities and schools, and the requirements the industry really has for the real work,” said Fayaz Ahmad Bhat, one of the organiser’s of the workshop.

The workshop also sought to raise confi dence levels, train and equip students with skills, which would help them pursue their dream jobs.

The IT (Information Technology) field is developing here. It has not developed much, but it is an emerging field right now. So, we need companies to come over here and recruit guys.

There is a lot of talent available here, but what we also lack is exposure and, I think, these kinds of workshops are really great for us, said Muhammad Amir Mir, a student Experts gave lectures during the workshop, updating students about the latest developments in the field of information and technology.

“With the help of this workshop, I came to know what the requirements are. Obviously, there is no doubt about the skills of people in Kashmir, and, we can compete with anyone in any part of the world,” said Henna, another student.

Such workshops can help talented youth from the region hone their skills by providing them proper guidance.
